The very responsive Livermore Clerk’s office furnished ball-park estimates for the cost of a Special Ballot Initiative. There are two paths: a Stand Alone Election, or a Consolidated one with Alameda County. These are guesstimates but a Stand Alone could cost $12-15 per registered voter, that number moving up and down from about 52,000, making the cost in the neighborhood of $635,000 to $795,000. The Consolidation with Alameda County starts in the area of $200,000 and can rise to $300,000. Alameda County is in the process of formulating the costs for a 2020 election, so that cost may well increase. This money could be better spent on necessary City projects rather than voters responding to glitzy 4-color newspaper ads ground out by a self-interested small group.
