Garbage rates will be changing in Livermore for those who use smaller containers. The city council on Monday approved recommendations by staff to adjust rates to reflect changes in customer use. The new rates will go into effect July 1.

The current waste and recycling contract with Livermore Sanitation is designed so that ratepayer revenue covers the cost of providing the service. However, revenues generated by rates are not matching the costs due to on-going residential service downsizing and the practice of large commercial accounts “opting out” of the system by self-hauling materials.
