Sierra Computer Running Faster

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s Sierra computer, dedicated late last month as the third fastest computer in the world, is now running significantly faster and has become the world’s second fastest computer, the Laboratory announced.

Fastest is the Summit computer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. In order to move from third to second place in the computer speed derby, LLNL’s Sierra had to surpass Sunway TaihuLight, a computer developed by a National Research Center in China.
