Best-selling author Julie Lythcott-Haims, whose 2015 book, “Raising an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success,” challenged the growing phenomenon of helicopter parenting, will be the guest speaker for the 4th Annual Community Education Series Parenting Forum – “Dare to Parent Differently”
The forum is being sponsored by the City of Pleasanton and the Pleasanton Unified School District, in partnership with the Pleasanton Parent Teacher Association Council. It will be held on Sat, Feb. 1, at Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton.
Lythcott-Haims is the former Dean of Freshmen at Sanford University, where she was critical of the growing parental involvement in the day-to-day lives of their college students. In her talk, Lythcott-Haims will offer practical alternative strategies for parenting that stress the importance of allowing children to make their own mistakes and develop the resilience, resourcefulness, and inner determination necessary for long-term success. Breakout sessions will follow the keynote presentation.
The forum, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., is free and open to parents, teens, young adults, and community members. Register for course #17621at at www.pleasantonfun.com.
