In mid-March when it became clear that many of the senior’s rites of passage wouldn’t happen, the Livermore community found ways to honor their 2020 graduates.
Both Livermore High School and Granada High School celebrated their seniors with lawn signs and cap and gown drive-thru ceremonies to replace the loss of the traditional events, which are much anticipated this time of year.
Livermore High School’s Safe & Sober Grad Night chairs decided to buy a “Livermore High School Grad Lives Here” yard sign for every graduating senior and gathered a group of senior parent volunteers to place them on their yards as a surprise. Granada students received the same surprise, and many of their signs were customized by request. Organizers said the first order entailed 1,000 signs for the 548 seniors.
“Overall, this is just done to share some love with our kids – our heartbroken Seniors who missed out on what is the one of the best times of their lives – and celebrate them for what they have accomplished,” said Robin Groth-Hill, an organizer for Granada.
