Drivers for Survivors has received a $2,000 grant from Share the Spirit East Bay, which will be used to support its volunteer companion driver program.
The companion driver program provides transportation, and companionship, for ambulatory clients who have been diagnosed with cancer.
“We provide not only transportation, but also the companionship element that presents essential support, stress relief and therapeutic presence to allow cancer patients to focus on their health and required treatments,” said Executive Director Sherry Higgs.
The grant will go towards the group’s annual Volunteer Training & Appreciation Luncheon in February. The program provides companion driver services to cancer-related medical appointments within a 60-mile radius of the 94538 zip code,
