Pleasanton’s own Creatures of Impulse, a popular and much-lauded teen improv troupe, will compete against other Bay Area improv teams in Face-Off 2020 at the Firehouse Arts Center Theater.
Each of five shows will includes pro-wrestling-inspired scenes, games, and improv high-jinx, all with the audience-interaction that is a trademark for the troupe. The audience has the opportunity to win prizes, and of course, the champion improv team wins the bragging rights. Each show will feature a different guest ‘opponent’ from around the Bay Area.
Since its founding 12 seasons ago, Creatures of Impulse has represented California at the Teen Comedy Festival in Chicago four times; toured shows in San Francisco, Chicago, and New York; won the prestigious Creating Community Award of Excellence in Youth Development from the California Park and Recreation Society; and performed in San Francisco with the professional improv troupe Un-Scripted Theater Company in Union Square.
Since Creatures of Impulse founder Mark Duncanson, a Pleasanton recreation supervisor, will be backing a new adult (non-student) team for the Face-Off, cheekily named Creatures of Habit, Youth Programs leader Jeff Zavattero will direct the Face-Off this year.
Tickets for the Feb. 19 show are $2. cash only at the door. All other shows are $10, $5 for students. Tickets for those shows may be purchased at the door; at the Firehouse Box Office, 4444 Railroad Ave. in Pleasanton; by calling (925) 931-4848; or online at www.firehousearts.org.
