Shakespeare's Associates' has received a grant from the Livermore Valley Education Foundation, which means that the 2nd grade in-school "Unlocking Shakespeare" program will be taught in all Livermore Joint Unified School District 2nd grade classrooms in the 2015/2016 school year.

Each second grade class will receive ten 50-minute Shakespeare classes over the course of ten weeks, taught by two Teaching Artists from Shakespeare's Associates.

"I am thrilled that we will be able to expand the Shakespeare's Associates program to all Second Grade classrooms!," said Superintendent Kelly Bowers. "This is an amazing opportunity to expose children to poetry and the performing arts, providing a new and special component to the second grade experience. The theater is close to my heart and I am very pleased to partner with LVEF to provide this opportunity to our students."

LVEF Board Member Karen Hutchinson echoed Superintendent Bowers' sentiments. "By bringing the study of Shakespeare to our schools through this wonderful 2nd grade program, we are opening doors for our students into different cultures, world history and the ability to recognize themselves in Shakespeare's characters. I am delighted that we are funding this program and I can't think of a better way to introduce students to Shakespeare than through the Shakespeare's Associates program."
