Tri-Valley Students Graduate Boise State University
Eight students from the Tri-Valley received degrees this spring from Boise State University in Boise, Idaho, during online graduation ceremonies.
Ellen Olson, from Pleasanton, and Charlemagne Pelican, from Livermore received bachelor’s degrees in communications. Samantha Brewster and Alexa McGee, both from Pleasanton, received bachelor’s degrees in psychology. Sarah Fortunati, from Pleasanton, received a bachelor’s degree in public health. Megan Shackley, from Pleasanton, received a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing, while Kieran Nolan, from Dublin, received a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in finance. Cole Jacobs, from Livermore, received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

Local Students Receive Degrees at Stanislaus State
Eight students from the Tri-Valley will graduate this spring from California State University, Stanislaus, including three who will graduate with honors.
Nicole Hamby-Freund, from Livermore, will graduate Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in sociology; Joshua Allen, from Dublin, will graduate Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics; and Tiffany Fisher, from Livermore, will graduate Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Dominique Dunne, from Livermore, will receive a master’s degree with distinction in education, while Smitha Sandasani, from Dublin, will receive a master degree in business administration with a concentration in administration. Caitlin Carrion, from Dublin, will receive a bachelor’s degree in history; Rosario Cornejo-Gonzalez, from Dublin, will receive a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies; and Sarah Barr, from Dublin, will receive a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
Stanislaus State University will hold a variety of virtual commencements during May and June.
McSorley Graduates Magna Cum Laude
Kyle McSorley, from Livermore, has graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Tampa with a bachelor’s degree in communication.
A virtual commencement ceremony for the private university in Tampa, Florida, was held May 9.
Schofield Receives Degree in Agribusiness
John Edward Schofield II, from Dublin, has graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agribusiness from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Two from Pleasanton Initiated into Phi Kappa Phi
Two college students from Pleasanton were recently initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, the oldest academic honor society in the country.
Heidi Giancola, who attends San Jose State University in San Jose, California, and Nicolina Priess, who attends the University of Nevada, Reno, were among some 30,000 college students invited to join the honor society this year.
Membership in Phi Kappa Phi is by invitation only, based on academic performance. About 10% of college seniors and graduate students, and 7.5% of juniors qualify, along with faculty, professional staff and alumni who achieve scholarly distinction. Phi Kappa Phi has chapters on more than 300 college campuses.
