Regina Molitoris of Granada High School was the winner of the oratorical contest held earlier this month by Livermore American Legion Post 47. Molitoris, who received $250 for winning, will now compete in the District 10 (Alameda County) completion in San Leandro on Jan. 25th.
The contest focuses on some aspect of the U.S. Constitution. This year’s topic was the 27th Amendment, which prohibits any law increasing or decreasing the salaries of members of Congress from taking effect until the next term of office for representatives.
The amendment was first proposed in 1789, along with the amendments that became the Bill of Rights, but was not ratified by enough states to pass until 1992. It is the most recent amendment adopted.
