The second lap of the day is the caregiver lap, where spouses, children and other caregivers join the survivor in walking around the track.
Following these laps, anyone can walk a lap or more to honor loved ones who have battled cancer. In addition, the Survivors tent has free gifts, an ice cream social for survivors and other activities.
Relay for Life is a fundraising activity of the American Cancer Society to help fund research and other activities in the battle against cancer.
In the evening, the Luminaria (lighted bags) surround the track, each with the name of a survivor, one currently fighting the battle or a loved one lost to cancer. The Luminaria ceremony, which begins after dark, honors survivors as well as those who have lost the battle.
