A new book with an insider’s view of President Trump’s impeachment trial was released on June 16.
Congressman Eric Swalwell’s “Endgame: Inside the Impeachment of Donald J. Trump” offers details that may previously have been unavailable or obscured to the public. “Endgame” not only gives readers an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at the steps that led up to the impeachment trial, but also touches on how the outcome of the upcoming November election is highly consequential to the future of the world.
Swalwell, now in his fourth term of representing the Tri-Valley, had a front-row seat of the impeachment process as a member of the House Judiciary Committee. The 39-year-old lawmaker says that he named the book “Endgame” after the final moves of a chess match.
“Because that’s where I think America now finds itself,” he said. “We only have a few moves left in which to decide what kind of nation we want to be.”
Swalwell said the book initially started as a tribute to his father, a police officer who stood up against a corrupt mayor and lost his job because of it. It later evolved into an inside look at Congress and the impeachment process as it took shape.
Readers will find details about phone calls with the Ukrainian president, caucus meetings and conversations, Robert Mueller, and the historic vote by the House of Representatives leading to the third impeachment of a president in U.S. history.
Former U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance writes of the book, “Here are the details of what is really happening in the halls of Congress and what really happened during the House’s impeachment investigation. It’s a must-read for any serious student of the Trump administration.”
