The Livermore Area Recreation and Parks District will offer beginning classes in “West Coast Swing” starting Thursday, March 5, at the Veteran’s Building in downtown Livermore.
Taught by Joallyn Bohn, a professional ballroom and social dance instructor, the classes will run for four consecutive Thursdays. The cost is $48 for Livermore residents; $53 for nonresidents.
Bohn describes West Coast Swing as, "The official state dance of California. A jazzy, bluesy, swing that is danced to slower tempo swing music, in a slot type of configuration. Loads of fun!”
Bohn teaches two classes each Thursday, a beginning class at 7:15 p.m., and a Level 2 class at 8:15 p.m. Those who wish to further develop their dance skills may take the Level 2 West Coast Swing classes for four weeks in April.
The Level 2 classes are always a continuation of the prior month’s beginner classes. In April, Bohn will also teach beginning foxtrot.
To register for the beginner West Coast Swing classes, call LARPD at (925) 373-5700 and ask for the Class 5100.103, or go to www.LARPD.org. Partners are recommended, but not required. Smooth soled shoes vs rubber soled shoes are recommended.
