Hailing from historic County Waterford, traditional Irish ensemble Danú brings an enchanting mix of music, song and dance to the Bankhead Theater Monday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in “An Emerald Isle Christmas”. The musical style and sound that has played an integral role in Irish holiday and community traditions for centuries comes together in a joyous performance. Danú’s concerts in their native Ireland are true events, featuring high-energy performances and a mix of ancient Irish music and new repertoire. Strings Magazine has called them “impressive, immersive, and uniquely and unmistakably Irish.”
Now coming up to their 25th anniversary, Danú’s exceptional players on flute, tin whistle, fiddle, button accordion, bouzouki, and vocals (Irish and English), have performed around the globe and released nine critically-acclaimed albums. Winners of numerous awards from the BBC and Irish Music magazine, Danú has filled concert venues throughout Europe, the Middle East, and North America with stops at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and Symphony Space in New York City. Their live performances have been broadcast on NPR, the CBC, and the BBC.
The authentic sounds of the Emerald Isle will take audiences on a musical holiday across the water in this moving and memorable concert experience. Danú will appear at the Bankhead for one performance only. Remaining tickets start at $35. Discounted student and military tickets are available for $20.
