Shakespeare’s Associates raised more than $110,000 during its “Till it be morrow” campaign, with the help of an unnamed “angel donor,” who matched the first $50,000 in contributions.
The nonprofit organization, which produces the annual Livermore Shakespeare, was forced to cancel several events because of the COVID-19 pandemic, including this summer’s Shakespeare in the Vineyard season.
To replace lost ticket sales and keep the nonprofit financially afloat, the organization announced a fundraising campaign on April 15, with the angel donor’s pledge to match contributions through May 20.
In an email May 21, managing director Katies Marcel reported that the organization, known informally as the Livermore Shakes, had raised $111,199. The name for the fundraising campaign came from a line in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, “Parting is such sweet sorrow that I shall say goodnight till it be morrow.”
