The Pacific Coast Repertory Theatre will present the Tony Award-winning musical “West Side Story,” inspired by the timeless tale of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and set in the urban battleground of New York City’s West Side in the 1950s.
Trapped by the deep-seated rivalry between the Sharks, a Puerto Rican gang, and the Jets, a white gang, Maria and Tony discover that ancient grudges are no match for true love. The warring factions refuse to back down, and the “rumbles,” romance, and resentment lead the lovers to a tragic conclusion. With its soaring, sophisticated, and diverse melodies, energetic and athletic dance battles, and remarkably salient social message, “West Side Story” remains one of American musical theatre’s most loved treasures.
The production will star Sam Faustine as “Tony,” Alexis Vera as “Maria,” Brian Conway as “Bernardo,” and Sofia Costantini as “Anita.”
This will be award-winning actor and Bay Area-native Noel Anthony Escobar’s directorial debut. Joy Sherratt, last seen in PCRT’s production of Mamma Mia! as Donna Sheridan, choreographed the production, with music director Nick Perez.
The show will run for 11 performances. All performances will be at the Firehouse Arts Center, 4444 Railroad Ave., in Pleasanton. There will be an Inside the Show opportunity to meet the actors following the 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Jan. 26.
