Summer Art at the Bothwell

The Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center said this week that it will offer “Summer Art at the Bothwell” day camps for ages 4-17 this summer with limited registration because of current COVID-19 guidelines.

Three week-long sessions will be offered, beginning in July, with no more than 10 students per age group, 4-6, 7-10, and 11 and older.

The camps, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, will offer lessons taught by professional artists using a variety of media. Sessions will be held July 6-10, July 20—24, and Aug. 3-7. The cost is $350 per session.

The current series of online art classes, “Spring into Summer,” has also been extended through June 25.

Taught by Visual Arts Manager Anne Giancola, the twice-weekly lessons are designed for children ages 5-10. Each lesson requires materials commonly found in homes and combines art techniques with a child’s personal style and creative ideas. Classes are held Tuesday and Thursday mornings on Zoom and cost $15 per week.

Giancola’s “Map Making Art,” a new online class for all ages that connects geography with art, will be offered just once, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 13. Cost is $10.

Other online classes include:

• “How to Make a Song,” taught by Chris Ansuini, who has led “Rock Camp” sessions at the Bothwell in the past. The classes, to be held once a week on Tuesday evenings beginning July 7, will teach song structure, music theory, and how to use different sounds and classic beats to build a digital song using an inexpensive app. The 90-minute classes are designed for ages 12 and up and will be taught on Zoom through August. The cost is $350.

• Livermore’s poet laureate, Cynthia Patton, will also teach a one-week online creative writing class, at 10 a.m. from July 13-17, for students ages 8-17 who want to explore new ways to turn creative ideas into words on paper. Cost is $25.

• Local artist Thomasin Dewhurst will teach a four-session series of adult art classes in painting and drawing starting June 10.
