More than 200 student musicians from the Tri-Valley area are expected to participate in the 58th annual Tri-Valley Solo & Ensemble Festival at Livermore High School on Saturday, March 7.

The festival will be divided into three sections – band instruments, string instruments, and vocal/piano – and musicians may perform as soloists or as part of an ensemble They will have five minutes each to perform their selections, followed by five minutes of personal instruction by clinicians, public school educators with expertise as musicians and music teachers. After each performance, soloists or ensembles will be rated against a standard for their age group.

Those who receive a “superior” rating will be invited to a “command screening,” in front of a judge, with 12-15 then selected for a formal performance that evening. The festival will run from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., with the evening performance scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Livermore High School Auditorium.

Participants must be music students in their school district music programs. All events and performances, including the evening performance, are free and open to the public.
