Earth Day officially takes place on April 22 each year.
It began in 1970, when millions of people took to the streets to protest the negative impacts of 150 years of industrial development, including polluted air and water.
Now the occasion is used not only to educate people about environmental issues and solutions, but also to partake in activities, such as creek clean-ups.
We appreciate the yearly reminder that the earth needs our help. However, we all should treat every day as earth day.
