Libraries throughout the country have moved away from charging fines for overdue materials. Last week the Livermore and Pleasanton Public Libraries joined the trend.
The idea is to remove common barriers for library members and provide greater access to information for all.
According to one librarian, fines can present a significant hurdle to those who are economically disadvantaged, and have the most need for library resources.
We applaud the change as a way to eliminate unnecessary barriers to usage for all residents.
