We applaud the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District on its Rangers Reading Outreach Program. The program attempts to connect with all members of the community, particularly families who live in Livermore, but have not been to Sycamore Grove Park for various reasons.
Migrant 3- and 4-year olds were among those provided with information about the park.
A diverse group of 137 participants attended a field trip to the park with half to two-thirds Spanish speaking. Other languages included Punjabi, Hindi, Tagalong, Dutch and Vietnamese.
A grant from the Jerry Cohen Foundation funded the program.
The district hopes to continue the program. Given the strong response, we think it will.
