The Independent recommends a vote for Catharine Baker on November 6 to serve another term as the 16th Assembly District representative.

Baker has been effective working on issues that impact the Tri-Valley. She obtained funding for a parking garage near Dublin BART; a grant to update an aging visitor center and water system at Lake Del Valle; funds to expand Los Vaqueros Reservoir; and supported bipartisan bills that oppose State efforts to bypass local input.

She authored a bill that established the new organization that will create a plan to connect BART and ACE. Baker also initiated successful legislation to save the state’s vehicle emission standards from the federal attempted roll-back, and to protect the coastline from new offshore oil drilling. She worked with Senator Glazer to author a bill that would allow the state to sell the Tesla area making it possible to preserve it as open space.

She has supported tightening gun control regulations and legislation to deal with climate change.

Baker keeps in touch with constituents, holding regular town hall meetings and leading walks in local parks to listen to concerns and report on what is happening in Sacramento.

Her opponent Rebecca Bauer-Kahan supports battling climate change, tightening gun control laws, and finding transportation solutions.

We appreciate that Baker works across the aisle, even though she draws criticism from her Republican colleagues.

With her strong connection to the area, we believe that Catharine Baker has earned another term.
