I love Livermore, even more now that downtown improvements are ready, created by residents, businesses, city council and staff, and experts in land use, housing, traffic and development, all working together. But the entire plan may be derailed by nitpickers, just when we’re beginning to see the improvements promised for decades, for all downtown, not just Flagpole Plaza. But this crashes to a halt — with significant legal, planning, and financing problems — if Measure P loses and the development agreement for the wine country hotel can’t be adopted. I’m no expert in city planning, but I know the Livermore City Council has made every effort to satisfy the competing needs of a vibrant, diverse population. That is what we elected them to do. Let’s not delay progress with wishful thinking. Livermore needs the approved downtown plan. Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Vote “Yes” on Measure P.
