I was disturbed by last week’s headline, “Dublin OKs Five-Star Hotel.” It brought out all my latent pride in Livermore. Why should Dublin be the destination center for the Tri-Valley? Not that I am against Dublin, but shouldn’t it be Livermore? We are no longer just a rail stop, a cow town, a Lab town, a wine town. We are a vibrant and diverse city. Don’t we warrant a four- or five-star lodging (and restaurant)?
Let’s reach for the stars. Let’s have an iconic structure that proclaims, “This is Livermore, we are proud of Livermore and we welcome you to our City.” If it needs to rise many floors, and if it needs the larger footprint of the west side option, so be it. But let’s have something more than yet another three-star hostelry!
