City Council knows the general public will prefer the Initiative’s Central Park Plan over the Council’s design. Therefore it instructed staff to report any and all costs required to implement the Initiative. The mayor is hoping costs will keep voters from signing it.
Keep in mind that Council spent $500K on a public outreach process. Then it allowed a few self-interested folks to double-cross the public with a different site plan altogether. It even worked around a Referendum to avoid a public vote.
So, whose fault is it if Veterans’ Way has to move a few feet? Let’s charge those who hijacked the public process in the first place!
No kidding; the Initiative is a gift to the mayor and Council. It saves their iconic legacy and leaves downtown in a shape the city can live with for years to come.
