Las Positas College (LPC) has been named as the host of the USA Basketball Women in the Game conference.

Taking place May 18-19, the Women in the Game conference presents guest speakers from a variety of sports business fields, who will share their personal career journeys, essential characteristics for success in their roles, practical strategies to begin a career in the industry and how to sustain a position in a highly competitive field. Additionally, the conference features small group discussions and workshops focused on professional development, leadership training and interactive experiences.

"This is the third year of USA Basketball Women in the Game conferences and we are excited to be able to continue our outreach to women interested in pursuing careers in the sports industry," said Jim Tooley, USA Basketball chief executive officer. "It is important for USA Basketball to help educate and inspire women on the opportunities available in the sports industry."

Previous speakers have included two-time Olympic gold medalist Ruthie Bolton, UCLA women's Basketball Head Coach and USA Basketball gold-medal winning Assistant Coach Cori Close, basketball analyst and Stretch Beyond founder LaChina Robinson and Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Los Angeles Sparks, Penny Toler.

"We are very excited to welcome USA Women's Basketball to Livermore and the campus of Las Positas College," said LPC's Dean of Business, Health, Athletics, Work Experience and Kinesiology Dr. Amir Law. "As a former college women's bnasketball coach, I am a firm believer in the power sports has in building confidence, leadership skills, and community. This event will provide Livermore and surrounding communities the opportunity to interact with and learn from world-class professionals."

The conference, hosted in affiliation with the Golden State Warriors, runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18 and 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Sunday, May 9. Participants will be provided a catered lunch on Saturday, small breakfast on Sunday and will receive USA Basketball gift items.

The USA Basketball Women in the Game conference is held as part of the USA Basketball Women in the Game initiative, which exposes high school girls, college women and emerging professionals to careers in the sports industry with the goal of developing and preparing the next generation of female leaders.
