Las Positas College (LPC) and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's (LLNL) Bioengineering Center, Materials Engineering Division are teaming up for another Science and Engineering Seminar Series.
Now in its ninth year, the series provides LLNL scientists and engineers a forum to share research with LPC students, faculty and the Tri-Valley community. These free events will focus on the theme, "Theory to Practice: How Science is Done."
The premiere seminar features Research Engineer Anna Marie Belle, PhD and Postdoctoral Researcher Allison Yorita, PhD who will speak about "Flexible Microelectrode Arrays for Monitoring Brain Activity" on Thursday, October 4 from 6-7:15 p.m. in LPC's Building 2400, Room 2420.
Belle, whose work focuses on developing biosensor arrays for research into neurological diseases and disorders, and Yorita, who researches the microfabrication of neural devices and studies and characterizes chemical sensing capabilities on flexible polymer probes, will how principles of biology, chemistry, physics, physiology and engineering come together to design microstructures can monitor conversation between brain cells. The researchers will further explain how microelectrode arrays are used to capture information from brain cell communication and how the microelectrode arrays are fabricated and being developed for medical applications.
