To encourage people to return to downtown Livermore, the city will close six blocks of First Street – from Maple to L Street - to vehicles starting mid-morning on Friday, June 26, through the weekend. J and K streets will also be closed to vehicles between First and Second streets during the same period.
The city said the closure would allow for more foot traffic while also making it easier for pedestrians to maintain 6-foot social distancing. Pedestrians will also be required to wear face masks that cover nose and mouth under Alameda County COVID-19 rules.
The latest county Health Officer Order allows retail stores to reopen at 50% of normal capacity, or the number of people who can maintain a distance of 6 feet from each other, whichever is lower. Stores can also move goods outside for display or sale, and restaurants may open with outside seating.
