Glassdoor, the international jobs and recruiting company, has ranked Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory the sixth best place in the U.S. to work.
The ranking was done by current and former employees who offer comments to Glassdoor on working conditions at their companies.
Within the Bay Area, the Laboratory was chosen the top employer among large government or government contractor facilities; it was ranked the second best among all large employers.
The top-ranked large Bay Area employer is DocuSign, a San Francisco-based company that manages electronic documents and records.
To qualify as “large” under Glassdoor rules, employers must have at least 1,000 workers.
LLNL also ranked high in last year’s survey, 24th in the U.S.
This year’s ranking is clearly pleasing to those responsible for retaining and recruiting staff.
With about 7,500 employees, LLNL currently has 339 job openings. It is “growing like crazy and will continue to do so in the next few years,” said Renée Breyer, director of strategic human resources management at LLNL, in a statement.
“Having the recognition of being the No. 2 ‘Best Place to Work’ in the Bay Area is an honor that we hope will attract a diverse applicant pool for our hundreds of job openings,” Breyer said. “We look forward to growing our workforce and hopefully many new candidates will look to the Laboratory as an employer of choice.”
To LLNL Director Bill Goldstein, the Laboratory “will always strive to be both a leader in science and technology in service to the nation, and a place where people can thrive, have an impact and enjoy the work.”
Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work were determined using company reviews shared by U.S.-based employees between Oct. 23, 2018 and Oct. 21, 2019.
