While international travel may not be possible during the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Postal Service in San Francisco sent out a reminder this week that people can still apply for, or renew their passports for future use.
The Postal Service website includes an online tool to schedule an appointment at the nearest available office. The Postal Service said social distancing and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines would be followed during the appointment.
Once the appointment is scheduled, the Post Office will follow CDC guidelines of social distancing during the in-person application process.
To help speed up the process, applicants should fill out all forms ahead of time. Application forms and information on costs and how to apply for a passport book or passport card can be found at usps.com/passport or travel.state.gov/passport. Travelers can also obtain passport information by calling the National Passport Information Center at (877) 487-2778.
