The Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has named Steve Van Dorn as President/CEO of the organization. Van Dorn succeeds current President/CEO Scott Raty, who is retiring after a 31-year career as a chamber executive. Van Dorn will begin on August 8, 2018.
“After an extensive recruiting effort, Steve was selected by the Board to continue to lead the Pleasanton Chamber to exceed expectations for the collective membership,” said Harold Roundtree, Chairman of the Board and CEO of UNCLE Credit Union. “His extensive background in the industry coupled with his intimate knowledge of the Tri-Valley provides him with a great foundation as he transitions into his new role as CEO of the Pleasanton Chamber.”
Van Dorn most recently served as President/CEO of the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce where he helped form the Pleasant Hill Tourism Improvement District. In 2016, he served as corporate affairs manager for the California Chamber of Commerce representing the Silicon Valley/San Francisco Bay Area, where he was responsible for increasing connections and improving relations with business leaders in the region.
From 2002-2015, Van Dorn served as President/CEO of the Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce & Convention-Visitors Bureau, after serving as Director of Sales and Marketing for the organization. While at the Santa Clara Chamber, Van Dorn was a member of the Cal Chamber Board of Directors from 2013-2014, serving as the representative for the Western Association of Chamber Executives during his terms as chairman-elect and chairman. He received the Hospitality Achievement Award from the Silicon Valley Concierge Association in 2012 and a Certificate in Organizational Management in 2002 from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
“I am honored and excited about being chosen as the next President/CEO of the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce,” said Van Dorn. “I look forward to building upon the excellent work Scott Raty and his team have accomplished during his leadership. My dream has always been to work in a city that is close to where I live and values the importance of a strong business community. The City of Pleasanton offers both of these which is why my focus will be to ensure Pleasanton continues to be one of the top cities in the Bay Area to live, work and raise a family,” Van Dorn said.
Van Dorn began his career in 1984 in hospitality sales, working at three hotels with Hilton Hotels Corporation, moving on to sales positions with the Los Angeles and San Jose Convention and Visitors Bureaus before joining the Santa Clara Chamber. He earned a B.S. in Business Management from San Diego State University. He has been married to his wife Lori for 32 years and they have raised three sons aged 29, 27 and 25 in Dublin, CA.
“Per the guidance and direction of the Board, Steve’s focus will continue to be providing members with networking and marketing opportunities, business resources, educational programming, advocacy before local government and promoting the community awareness necessary to maintain the economic vitality in the City of Pleasanton,” said Roundtree, in a note to the Board of Directors.
A search committee was engaged in all aspects of the hiring process to find the next President/CEO. Raty, who has led the Pleasanton Chamber for the last 10 years, will retire on August 15, 2018.
