When Louise Salas was born in 1919, Woodrow Wilson was president. That was a long time ago. Earlier this month, the Colorado native, now a resident of The Vineyards Healthcare Center in Livermore, celebrated her 101st birthday with cupcakes and best wishes from her friends at the nursing care facility. Salas moved to California in 1942, and retired from Randron Systems in Menlo Park in 1990. She also was a deaconess at Fairway Park Baptist Church in Hayward, where she was the oldest member of the congregation. Two granddaughters, Monica DeMain and Jessica McGinnis, live in the Livermore area, but were unable to be with Salas for her birthday because of concerns over the coronavirus epidemic.
