East Bay Housing Organizations will kick off “Affordable Housing Week” with an online ceremony on Thursday, May 7, to honor community leaders who have made significant contributions to affordable housing.
Honorees will include Oakland City Council member Dan Kalb for his leadership in preserving affordable housing and increasing tenant protections, community activist Karen Smulevitz for her support of the EBHO Resident Community Organizing Program, and Monument Impact, a Concord, California, nonprofit supporting immigrant, refugee, and low-income residents.
The virtual ceremony, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., will also launch EBHO’s first digital Affordable Housing Guidebook, and highlight ways to create, protect, and preserve, affordable housing in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
