Anne Power, loving mother to Jane Lunn (Erik) and Kristin Power, passed away Jan. 2, in Livermore. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 56 years, Randy Power, and parents Hattie and Merle Schell.
Anne was born on April 17, 1931, in Washburn, Missouri, and moved with her parents and brother Pat Schell to Delhi, California, in the 1940s. She graduated from California State University, Fresno before embarking on a long career in elementary education, including a stint with the Department of Defense teaching on Air Force bases in Germany. She impacted the lives of many children as a sixth-grade teacher at Gomes School in Fremont.
She was a proud grandparent to Collin and Jason. Anne was a dedicated community volunteer in Mission San Jose, including working with the educational program at the Museum of Local History and the Committee for the Restoration of Mission San Jose. She also served as a docent at the City of Fremont’s Shinn Historical Park. In addition, she was an active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. Anne was an avid reader and active member of her neighborhood book club for more than 20 years.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m., Friday, Jan. 24, at the Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Museum of Local History, 190 Anza St., Fremont, CA 94539.
