Beverly Jane Lima passed away in San Jose, California, on Feb. 11. She was born Dec. 2, 1927, to James Bartolo Lima and Anna (Auntzie) Koch in Livermore, joining her three-year-old brother, James (Bud). She grew up Livermore riding horses, tap dancing, socializing with her girlfriends, going to movies and dances, and the Garbini Ranch. It was a happy childhood until her mother died of complications from gall bladder surgery when Bev was 10 years old. Her father soon remarried, and the family eventually relocated to San Jose.
Beverly married John Beaudet on Aug. 31, 1947. They had five children: Phil, Judy, Shelly, Tom, and Marty. They divorced in 1958. Bev then married Harry Hecket in 1970. That union also ended in divorce.
Bev worked a variety of jobs and was an avid reader as well as the proverbial cat lady. She loved to discover out-of-the-way places, and she and her daughter Judith experienced many adventures in moving. She helped raise her daughter Shelly’s son, Michael, after Shelly was disabled in a car accident. Michael dubbed her “Nice Grandma” and has been like a son to her. In later years, her son Marty took her to Budapest to locate the house in which her mother had grown up. In her final years, son Tom and his dogs, Oskar and Brodie, gave her great joy and comfort.
Bev leaves behind her son Phil (Heidi), daughter Judith (Robert), son Tom (Pablo), son Marty (Chuck), grandson Michael, and great-granddaughters Freya and Isla. Her daughter Shelly predeceased her.
There will be no services. Her children will take her ashes home to Livermore where Bev was happiest.
