Cathy passed away peacefully April 29, 2019, with family by her side at her home in Daly City. Cathy was born on August 19, 1945, in Oakland, Calif., to Dorothy Brenn and Edward Dilger. The Dilger family subsequently lived in the San Lorenzo and Hayward area. Cathy was the twin sister and best friend of Maryln (Bob), and older sister to George (Cathy) and Mark (deceased). Loving aunt to Kathleen (Juan), Joanna (Joshua), Kirsten (Justin), Jeffrey (Jenna), Michelle (Joe), and Tony (Cathy), and devoted great aunt to ten great nieces and nephews.

Cathy attended Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland, and earned a BA and Teaching Credential at San Francisco State University. She then moved to Livermore and settled into the community there. Cathy served as a public school kindergarten teacher in Livermore for decades, at both Marylin Avenue Elementary School and Arroyo Seco Elementary School. A favorite activity of Cathy’s was the annual circus at Marilyn Avenue Elementary School. Cathy often hosted family events at her cozy Springtown home, as well as bridge games, dominoes, and other get-togethers with her beloved circle of friends.

At midlife, Cathy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and began to experience a gradual decline in mobility and dexterity. In 2012, she decided to move to Peninsula Del Ray Assisted Living Facility in Daly City in order to receive more assistance with day to day tasks. This move also placed her closer to her twin sister Maryln and Maryln’s family in San Francisco, which enabled them to spend much more time together as a family. Maryln and her family visited Cathy daily and went on outings with her as much as possible. She enjoyed the local restaurants and the nearby shopping malls.

Cathy greatly enjoyed her warm friendships with many Peninsula Del Ray residents. She was an avid participant in the BINGO games and she loved to sing with the Peninsula Del Ray singers. Cathy’s family is forever grateful for the loving care provided by staff members at Peninsula Del Ray, as well as the nurses from Kaiser Palliative Care, and the nurses from Pathways Hospice. Senior Assist of the Peninsula also provided caregivers for Cathy in her last days.

A Memorial service will be held for Cathy at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary in Daly City on Friday, June 21, 201 at 1 in the afternoon. Friends are invited to attend. Donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward.
