Joyce Rosalind Taylor passed away on June 5, 2019, in Livermore, Calif., after a valiant battle with lung cancer. She was 80 years young. She touched many lives with her abundant love, zest for life, and amazing spirit.

Joyce was born in Atchison, Kan., on November 30, 1938. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Kansas State University, and her Master’s degree in Education from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was an educator

for 31 years, starting her career in 1970 as a Reading Specialist at Martin East and West School in Atchison, and retiring on October 17, 2001, as the Program Director/Department Chair at Foothill High School in the East Side Union High School District located in San Jose, Calf.

Joyce was an active member of the Livermore Unitarian Universalist Church. In addition to multiple other activities, she deeply loved working with the youth program and co-creating and teaching an anti-bias curriculum.

She enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends, co-raising her granddaughter, reading, writing poetry, and tending to her garden.

She was the best mom and gran gran on this earth! The world has lost a strong, phenomenal woman.

Joyce is survived by her loving family, including daughter Sheria Johnson; daughter Nia Rashidchi, son-in-law Sammy Rashidchi, and granddaughter Roya Rashidchi; daughter Terra Deva McNair, son-in-law Benjamin J. Shepherd, and granddaughter Azaya Deva-Shepherd; brother, William Wesley Taylor, sister-in-law Sue Taylor, nieces Leslie Taylor and spouse LaTaunya Bynum, Leila Taylor, Bukeka Blakemore and spouse Eugene Blakemore, Makeda Hawk and spouse Peter Hawk, nephew Jeffrey Taylor, and grandnephews Delbert Eugene Shoals and Robbie Hawk.

Friends and family are invited to the viewing and funeral service at Callaghan Mortuary on Tuesday, June 18 (Viewing: 2 - 3 p.m.; Funeral Service: 3:30 - 4:45 p.m.), located at 3833 East Avenue in Livermore, Calif., (925-447-2942). The repast/reception will take place from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 1893 North Vasco Road, Livermore (925-447-8747). If attending services, please plan to wear bright, vivid colored clothing.
