Karen Lynn Kelly Adams went to Heaven the morning of Tuesday March 3, 2020, 21 years to the day after her husband, Len Adams, also entered Heaven. Now they are together again with their son, Billy Adams, who passed away six months ago, and so many other loved ones, including her best friend of over 50 years, Anita “Ellie” March.
Karen was born in Oakland, California, on Oct. 27, 1942, to William and Ruth Kelly. She grew up in Alameda, California, with her beloved sister Patti. She graduated from Alameda High School in 1960. She attended the Samuel Merritt School of Nursing (now Samuel Merritt University), where she was president of her class, and became a registered nurse.
Karen met the love of her life, Len Adams, in 1963, and they were married in1964. Karen and Len raised three children – Tina, Kim and Billy – in Livermore. Karen worked as a nurse for over forty years, retiring from Valley Care Hospital in Pleasanton. After a short illness, Karen died in the loving care of fellow nurses and medical professionals at Valley Care.
Karen enjoyed gardening, day trips, Bible study, volunteering at church, and most recently, feeding the hungry in the community. She loved connecting with people and formed many strong friendships with her neighbors who became like family. She cared deeply for her family, her friends, her patients, her sweet cat Rosie, and dozens of people who called her “grandma.”
Karen is survived by her sister, Patricia Lee Wonder (Daniel); her daughters, Kristina and Kim Adams; her granddaughters, Sonya Gonzales and Veronica Nims; and a cousin, Lucia Scardigno.
A Celebration of Life mass will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 14. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Livermore, where she was a parishioner for more than 40 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Community Health and Education Foundation/Feed Our Hungry, to support a ministry started by her son and dear to her heart.
