A member of the greatest generation, Lee Higgins Jr. passed away peacefully at Quail Garden in Livermore on February 21, 2020 at the age of 95.
Lee was born to Levi and Clara Higgins on March 29th, 1924 in Enumclaw, Washington. He joined the Army on January 25, 1943 in Richmond, California at the age of 18. He was a decorated veteran of World War 2 as a combat engineer and was in the Allied invasion landing at Normandy. After the war’s ending, he joined his parents on their farm in Livermore, California. He utilized his military training as a truck driver and owner/operator of his trucking ventures. His driving a motorcycle for the Army in Europe became a pursuit of pleasure when he bought his own Harley-Davidson after returning home. Livermore was Lee’s primary residence for the rest of his life.
Lee was preceded in death by his loving wife Katherine Maples Higgins. He is survived by his sisters Ina Whetstone and Sharon Gunter, children Karen Beidler, Carol Dickman (Dennis), Diana Lyons (Patrick), and Dennis Higgins (Sabrina). Lee also had 14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 8 great, great grandchildren.
There will be a viewing at Callaghan Mortuary from 10 AM to 12 PM on Monday, March 2nd. The service will follow from 12 PM to 1 PM. His internment will be after the service at Memory Gardens.
