Margarita Rogers passed peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019, surrounded by family and friends. She was a beautiful soul and trusted confidant to all she encountered, and found the beauty and good in each. She actively practiced and pursued happiness, forgiveness and kindness, leaving each situation a little better than before. Every person who knew her can share a priceless memory of how she not only helped them, but how she truly listened without judgement.
Margarita -- also known as Margie, Aunt Maggie, Nana, and Nina -- was born in Tecate, Mexico. She moved to California when she was about two years old, growing up in Southern California with her parents and three sisters.
She is survived by her son, Marc McGregor; sisters Rosemary Baxter and Betty Labastida; stepsons Joe, Steven, James and Harold Rogers; 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Joe Rogers; her parents Rosa and Leopoldo Labastida; her younger son, Michael Thayer; and an older sister, Maria Luisa Barajas.
Family was everything to Maggie, and those who knew her well became like family. Her home was a place of gathering for celebrations, holidays, to share sorrows, and for healing. She gave each one of us all she had, and we are all better having known her.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life from noon to 3:30 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 25, at her home in Livermore. There will be a private graveside service on Jan. 24.
