Mary Gertrude Becker née McKay died peacefully at home in Livermore, holding the hands of loved ones, after a short illness on Dec. 12, 2019, one day after her 103rd birthday. Born and raised in San Francisco, she was a proud Irish-American, fierce Democrat, recovering fabricholic, loving wife and widow of K H “Larry” Becker, unconditionally loving mother of five, beloved and protective grandmother of seven, and adoring great-grandmother of eight (with another expected soon). Having lived in Danville, CA, for almost 40 years, she had a wide circle of cherished friends, neighbors and workmates in the Bay Area. She outlived most of her closest friends, but had an open and welcoming personality that easily attracted new ones. In her last few years, living and being cared for in the Livermore home of her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, she also had a team of devoted caregivers, some of whom also became cherished friends.
She outlived her husband, Larry, who died in 1982. She is survived by sons John (San Francisco) and Stephen, aka MySontheDoctor (Hood River, Oregon) and daughters Margaret and Mary Ellen (both Livermore) and a tribe of grandchildren and great-grandchildren in California and Oregon.
There will be a private cremation interment, joining her beloved husband at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette, CA, with a celebration of her life and love, open to all friends and extended family at a yet-to-be-determined venue.
