Rene Roland Drumtra

Rene Roland Drumtra, a longtime resident of Livermore, passed away surrounded by family on Dec. 21, 2019, after a five-month battle with cancer. He was born in Lewiston, ME, and raised in Sylvania, OH, before moving to California in 1972. Rene graduated from Dublin High School in 1973. Soon after, he began working at Granada Bowl in Livermore, and it was there that he met the love of his life. Pamela Andrews. They were engaged after two months and married four months later, a loving marriage of more than 40 years. They settled in Livermore, where they raised their daughter, Tracie. Rene was a devoted and loving father and enthusiastic in her many activities. He became especially involved in the Livermore soccer scene where he became a youth soccer referee.

Rene spent many years managing Grand Autos. He was known for his time working for the Target Corporation. He was meticulous in his work and took a strong interest in mentoring and investing in the next generation. His coworkers were always more than that and he was remembered by many as someone who had a great impact on their life and career.

Rene loved to travel and instilled in his family a sense of adventure. He fondly remembered his travels to England, France, Vietnam, Korea, and to visit family throughout the United States. He especially loved his travels to Hawaii with friends and family.

Rene’s passion was sports. He was a lifelong Red Sox fan, loyally rooted for the New England Patriots and all the local Bay Area sports teams. Rene was an accomplished bowler, achieving two 300 games. He loved to golf and was a member of the Las Positas Men’s Club. His favorite pastimes were golfing with friends, travelling with family and rooting for his grandchildren on the sidelines of their sports. He was an amazing grandfather and loved his role as Papa.

Rene is survived by his wife Pam; daughter Tracie; son-in-law Greg; grandchildren Luke, Noah, Grace and Chloe; his three sisters, Charmaine, Kelly (Craig), Kandy (Bob), and his brother Paul. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who considered him more than an uncle and a village of loyal friends from all aspects of his life’s journey.

Rene’s family would like to extend their deep gratitude to the staff and volunteers of Hope Hospice for their tender care and to the wonderful staff at Creekview Pleasanton. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you honor Rene by enjoying a sporting event, playing golf with friends, a donation to Hope Hospice, 6377 Clark Avenue, Dublin, CA 94568. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Sunday, Jan. 19, at The Clubhouse at Las Positas Golf Course.
