Fusion SC's 2006 Girls Maroon

Fusion SC's 2006 Girls Maroon collaborated on a Build-A-Bear giveaway.

When it comes to helping others, Livermore Fusion Soccer Club’s 2006 (U14) Girls Maroon NPL are a championship team. During November, the girls collaborated on creating 40 Build-A-Bears that they donated, en route to a match, to Shriners Hospital for Children in Sacramento. Wearing Fusion attire and accompanied by Coach Mary Whisler, the 17 teammates had assembled the bears at Build-A-Bears’ Stoneridge Mall location. After finishing the build, the girls got into the holiday spirit by giving awa y bears to random children in the mall. The team plans to donate another 40 bears in December to Agape Village, a foster family agency. Presley, a first-year team member, came up with the idea for the bear giveaway, inspired by her cousin Roman. Born with a rare genetic disorder, Roman was not expected to live past the age of 5. Against all odds, Roman is now 21. Presley and Roman are extremely close, seeing each other almost daily. When Roman underwent medical treatments as a youngster, he often asked for a Build-A-Bear to comfort him during recovery. Presley has kept this tradition alive by giving bears to children with medical challenges. Presley started the program three years ago. The first two years she managed by herself, funded by donations from family, friends and door-to-door solicitations. This is the first year that she asked others to participate. “Coach Mary and my teammates supported the idea when I discussed it with them,” said Presley. “I was excited that they were so supportive, especially since they made the bears on their own time. “Knowing that I am giving happiness to children drives me to continue this program,” Presley added. “It makes me feel good to make a positive impact by putting smiles on children’s faces.” “I’m really proud of the girls for getting together on the Build-A-Bears,” said Coach Mary. “We are grateful to Presley and her family for letting our team be a part of this incredible program.” “Presley is a really special person whose kind heart cannot be measured in any soccer related stat. I am honored to coach someone so thoughtful of others.”
