It was a big weekend for the Pleasanton Rage 05 girls’ soccer team as they took on MVLA in an ECNL match. Rage 05 ECNL went into the weekend as the number two team in Northern California. A win over Mountain View Los Altos girls would catapult the team to the top spot. With emotions running high, Rage started the first half a little flat, while MVLA was able to distribute balls effectively. They took great shots that were luckily saved by Rage goalkeeper, Layla Armas. Rage’s tough back line was able to keep MVLA at bay, ending the first half netted at 0-0. Rage retooled at halftime and came out with a vengeance. Katie Strong had one of the most impressive scores all year, with a side volley kick that broke the tie. Strong then followed up with two more goals to finish with a hat trick. Rage’s Lauren Kenny also kept her scoring streak alive and contributed with a beautiful run and score. With a final score of 4-1, Rage is now on top of the ECNL leaderboard. Coach Jarreth Chan said, “With a slow start, I believe the girls adjusted well and came ready to play in the second half. They took control of the game and never looked back. I’m really proud of the girls and they displayed true teamwork. It was fantastic to watch them play.” This also gives the team a birth to the national playoffs in San Diego in June. Rage takes on three highly ranked opponents this weekend in an ECNL college showcase in Arizona.
